Hours of spinning entertainment can be YOURS for doing whatever I say for the next two weeks! ... riiight...
Best way to spin fire without burnin yourself is to start out spinnin without fire... Take a moment to absorb that last sentence... it's deep, I know... I suppose you could practice with a fire poi set before you burn them, but it'd be better to start with something cheap if you're not sure you want to get into it... like practice poi made of socks & tennis balls. Seriously!! They work great!
The simplest and cheapest way I have found to make practice poi is to make sock poi.
So, how do you do it?
I. You need to get the materials. You need:
1. a pair of socks...preferably brightly colored and flashy... :).
2. two tennis balls

3. a sharp knife, or heavy duty scissors
4. some pebbles for weight
II. Cut a slice in each tennis ball, just big eno

ugh to put the pebbles in for weight. Then put a balanced amount of pebbles in each tennis ball - however much weight you want. If you want really light poi, you could just put the uncut tennis balls in the socks.
III. Once the weighted or unweighted tennis balls

are in the socks, you can tie the socks near the opposite ends. This knot will give you something to hold on to while you spin the poi. If you want, you can tie a mini-truckers hitch knot at the end - this will give you a loop to put your finger(s) through while you're spinning. You can kind of see the loop at the end of the poi in the pic to the right.
IV. Spin away!!
